Update on Literacy Volunteers of Broome-Tioga Counties’ Response on the Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Literacy Volunteers of Broome-Tioga Counties (LVBTC) Reopening Information
December 2, 2020
Hello Literacy Volunteer students, tutors, and community members,
I hope you are all doing well and staying healthy! Since March and the closing of our offices and Literacy Labs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have continued to support students and tutors through email, telephone, Zoom webinars, and mailings. All of us quickly adapted to remote learning and support.
Now that we have entered Phase 4 of the NYS reopening plan, I wanted to share our guidelines for opening the LVBTC offices and eventually offering in-person Literacy Labs and tutoring. Since our main office is located at the Broome County Public Library, we need to ensure that our plan follows the Library’s reopening information.
The Broome County Public Library has re-opened for in-person services beginning Monday, December 1. They are following the schedule of being open for 1 ½ hour then closing the site for a half-hour to clean surfaces and repeating that throughout the day. Face masks are required. Please visit their website at www.bclibrary.info or by calling 607-778-6451 during Library hours. New Library hours are 9:00 am to 6:30 pm (M-Th) and 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (Friday). The Library is continuing to offer Curbside Pickup (call 607-778-6454).
Since the Library has restrictions in their daily hours for cleaning, we plan to keep our offices closed and have our staff continue to work remotely. Once the Library opens its doors on a regular basis, we will resume regular LVBTC office hours. However, we are available by appointment for meetings, appointments, or for you to browse our Literacy Tutor Library. We will follow all social distancing and other health and cleaning rules. Please call our office (778-6406) to schedule a meeting or if you have any questions.
Although the New York State Education Department (Adult, Career and Continuing Education Services) is allowing face to face services for locations that have reopened, we are going to continue to recommend that our Literacy Volunteers’ adult learners receive services remotely while the library hours are limited. We will keep you posted on when face-to-face tutoring at the Library can be scheduled and the Literacy Labs reopened.
Thank you for your patience, for your hard work, and for continuing to be a member of the Literacy Volunteers community. We look forward to resuming normal activity in the near future.
