Improve Reading, Writing and Math skills

For adults* 16 years of age and older who want to increase their reading and/or math skills, Literacy Volunteers of Broome/Tioga provides free, one-to-one, confidential tutoring. Students are matched with a trained volunteer tutor. They work together on the student’s goals using lessons that help the student improve his/her skills. Tutors meet with students at an agreed upon time and place. These places are usually a local library, church or school. Meetings are held once or twice a week for 1-2 hours.

English for Speakers of Other Languages

Improve your English

This program is for adults* who are new speakers of English and want to improve their English speaking and listening skills. Literacy Volunteers of Broome/Tioga provides free, one-to-one, confidential tutoring. Students are matched with a trained volunteer tutor and work together on the student’s goals. Tutors meet with students at an agreed upon time and place. These places are usually a local library, church or school. Meetings are held once or twice a week for 1-2 hours.

Adult Basic Education students and some English for Speakers of Other languages may be eligible to participate in our new Lab (workshop) programs and Mini Classes.

The Labs are held for 90 minutes each once a week in the mornings. Students can attend labs instead of, or in addition to, one-to-one tutoring.

Mini Classes meet for 3 or more weeks on specific topics.
Time and location to be determined by the Program Coordinators. Examples: MATH: Work with fractions ; ENGLISH: Antonyms & Homonyms

*Note: Students 16 through 21 years of age cannot be enrolled in school
